Local Resouces

Melissa

I am using MS Project Pro 2002 and Project Server 2002.

Project Managers cannot create resources.

I have an Enterprise Resource Pool which consists of the
majority but not all of our internal resources.

For all other users on a project a user creates a Local
Resource and assigns them to a task. I have noticed that
when a project manager publishes the plan and the publish
includes tasks assigned to the Local, the system tries to
Publish the local resource to the server.

Since PM's cannot create new users, this creates a spooler
error with the error code 0x8c040017. Is there a way to
prevent the system from trying to publish these
resources. It already knows they are local as it displays
the "local" icon in the Indicator column.

This is frustrating especially in training when you have
to explain to PM's this error is going to happen and there
is nothing you or they can do about it.

Have I missed something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Melissa

Set the workgroup value for each local resource to none, rather than
default.

Hi Melissa,

To build on what Gary said - a couple of things -
1) there is no way to mass change this for all local
resources thought you can add the Workgroup column to you
Resource Sheet view to help you see what the setting is
and make changes.
2) you should know that you will also want to do this for
resources that you have set to inactive as MS will still
try to communicate to that resource as long as their
Workgroup setting is set to default.

Hope this helps,
Roxanne
