Location of Offline (.ost) files in Windows XP

I have offline folders setup and I work offline
frequently. However, if I search for the offline (.ost)
file - it cannot be physically located on my hard drive.

Where does Windows XP store this file?

I'm using Outlook 2002.

Recently our server crashed and I wanted to restore my
offline folder. Because I couldn't locate a physical
file, I was unable to restore my data.

It is under your documents and settings\<userid> location. Try configuring
Windows Explorer to show you all files and then do a search (don't forget to
configure the search to look in hidden/system files/folders).

If you don't want to search, you should be able to open outlook, right click
on mailbox - <username> and select properties | advanced | advanced tab |
offline folder settings to get to the dialog that shows you
drive/path/filename.

Just hidden files and folders is sufficient. No need to enable system
files.
