Lock Cells on a Table

In Wordperfect you have a row or a column locked from
being changed. So when you entered data on one could
enter data in those cells. Kind of like Column Headers or
Row Headers. Does Word have anything like that?

Hi, Linda,

In all versions up to and including Word 2002, the answer is no. Protection
can be applied only to sections (areas between section breaks), and you
can't insert a section break inside a table -- trying to do so will split
the table into two separate tables. The alternative is to put text form
fields in the cells where editing is allowed, and protect everything else.
However, protection of this kind disables some features, including spell
checking (but see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/MacrosVBA/SpellcheckProtectDoc.htm).

Word 2003, which just completed beta testing and will be available for sale
in October, will let you protect arbitrary areas of the document.
