Access tells me someone else is using the database and it won't all
me to gain control -- but there is no one else.... how do I regain
control.
Exit all instances of Access that you have open on your PC. Check in
Task Manager to make sure there are no instances of MSACCESS.EXE in the
task list. Look in the folder where the database is stored for a file
with the same name as the database, but with the .ldb extension (the
file type may be reported as "Microsoft Access Record-Locking
Information", or "Microsoft Access Lock File"). If you are *sure* no
one else is in the database, and you know you aren't, delete that .ldb
file. CAREFUL! Don't mistakenly delete the .mdb file!
If you were able to delete the lock file, try opening the database now
and see if you can get in okay. If Windows wouldn't let you delete the
lock file, it should have reported who had it locked, and that should
help you resolve the problem.
