locking a template

I have a created a letterhead template that is locked until halfway through
the document where I have an unprotect macro which then makes it a word
document. I have another macro which inserts another letterhead template
into the same document. How do I lock the document so that only the new
template is locked. What is happening at the moment is that when I bring the
new template the whole document locks and jumps back to the first field in
the first template.

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do, exactly, but here is
one suggestion: Instead of unprotecting the target file, you could have an
unprotected section, where you can then insert the source file.

After you've inserted the file, you can use your macro to protect and
unprotect sections as you wish (if necessary).

Some of the users prefer to do all there letters in one document so in order
to standardise things I want to create a senario where they can insert the
letterhead template as many times as they need to in the same document. I
want the template to run the same everytime it is inserted ie locked for the
top part and then unlocked for the body of the letter. Hope this clarifies
what I want to do. Some assistance with the code would be really appreciate,
I am relatively new at this.

Thanks sooooo very much

What code are you currently using? Are you using forms protection, which I
assumed in my previous reply? Or maybe you are just trying to prevent users
from changing headers and/or footers?

I think the users need re-training. However, you will probably need to be
dividing the document into Sections so that the protection can be applied
selectively.

However, for a document like a letter, the use of formfields that require
the template to be protected for forms is not the most appropriate thing.
Far better to use a userform so that you do not need to protect the document
and thus restrict what can be done or have to resort to the use of a macro
to remove the protection.
