Locking up when editing addresses

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

Entourage is working just fine until I edit addresses in the To: field. This frequent causes the whole system to lock up. No force quit, no mouse or keyboard response at all.

This necessitates a hard restart of the system from the power button.

Already reloaded Office 2004 and re-applied the patches once. next option is to rebuild the system as a whole.

Any ideas appreciated.

I would try applying the latest combo update to OS X:

pdate.html>
Combo updates often fix strange OS problems because they overwrite files
that may have had incremental updates implied improperly for a number of
reasons.
Warning: It is a big one -- 729MB, so use the fastest connection you have
available.

The laptop is new (as of January) MBP 15 with current OS. When I reload I'll do the combo over incremental.

Create a new Identity in Entourage. Enter your Exchange account and let it
sync back up. Now test your problem. If it goes away then your database was
corrupt. For Exchange accounts, it's easier to use a new Identity rather
than try to rebuild.

Let us know if you have other info in the Identity that needs to be moved.
You can manually move it over.

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)
