I'm experiencing an Access lockup, in some cases, when doing a filter
operation using the short cut menu, built in by Microsoft. I'm using Access
2003 on an Access 2000 database.
The lockup occurs if I enter a numeric value in the filter box, for an
alphanumeric field, and do not enter the quotes. For example, searching for
number 4178. If I enter 4178 (which is in the database) in the filter I get
the message:
"Data type mismatch in criteria expression"
After getting this message I click the OK button for the error dialog.
Access then seems to lock up for a few mintues, then returns (displaying the
message Calculating... in the status line). Or, interesting enough, if I
switch to another application, and back again, Access is no longer locked up.
However, if I filter for a value like L517, without quotes, it works just
fine.
So, I'm thinking, just tell the users to allways use quotes. However, if
you a filter on a numeric field, with quotes, you get the same error and lock
up condition.
Does anyone have a general solution that does not require the user to know
if the field they are filtering is numeric of alphanumeric?
Thanks for your help.
