Log In Question

Okay, after much consternation and following the best instructions I can
find I think we have Project Server set up. We have SQL Server 2000 and
Analysis Server on one box and then we have Project Server 2003 along with
Windows Sharepoint Services on a Windows Server 2003 (web server) box. I
followed the Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 Installation Guide to the
letter.

We are running into a problem however and maybe I'm misunderstanding
something here. As the Administrator I created a Project Templates document
area under Public Documents and uploaded some templates as a test of the
shared document functionality. I set up a user and added him as an
Administrator and gave him rights to everything. (He does not have a Log In
to the web server box.) He can log in to PWA at
http://servername/projectserver and can navigate to the Public Documents
area. This takes him to the Shared Documents and Project Documents list. If
he click on either of these he gets a Windows log in box. As the
Administrator I have a log in to the Web server box. I don't get that
Windows log in prompt when I clcik on Shared Documents or Project Documents.

So, do I have to set up every PWA user as a user on the Web Server as well
as a user in Project Server? Thanks.

Steve:

I believe the reply I just wrote to Andy Novak in the thread posted minutes
before yours, applies to your situation as well. Please read it and let me
know if you have additional questions.

Gary,

Thanks for that reply and Yes, your reply to him seems to answer my question
as well. Showing my novice status for a minute here you mentioned, "manually
added to
each site". So what 'site' do I add this user to to see the public shared
doucments without a Windows login? I don't want to give hundreds of users
Administraotr rights to the box. How do I best handle this?

BTW, love your two books. They are really handy.

Steve:

You can't add anyone without a Windows account to a SharePoint site. WSS
does not support any type of authentication other than Windows and
Anonymous.

Okay, thanks. That helps. We have Anonymous turned on and it is a member of
Guest. This doesn't seem to solve the problem. Does Anonymous need greater
rights than that?
