login and edit the remote site directly vs editing local

IF you have FP extensions installed and working on your online web server:

Open FP
File | Open Site
type in your site's url...http://www.whatever.com
This will open your site "live"

then you can publish down to your local machine after your done. Common
practice seems to be editing locally then publishing up to the server, but
you can work live too....but you should publish down so you have a current
copy.

Thank you Rob - I try this and error indicates that I cannot access the
folder -
"http://www.whatever.."/" isn't accessible. The folder may be located in an
unavailable location, protected witha password, or the filename contains a /
or \.

My host indicates I have frontpage extensions - but how do I check?? maybe
i don't??

ANy ideas. I would expect it to prompt me for the password to the server.
I have a peer that just loads his site in Explorer and then goes to File and
Open with Frontpage and it opens the entire site, not just the page. I can't
do either - open the remote anyway... please advise. Thank you. Appreciate.

With your browser type in the address;
http://www.yourwebname.com/_vti_inf.html if your website has FP extensions
installed it will return an html page that indicates that it does. However,
that does not necessarily mean they are working, they could be broken by
using ftp to upload.

The folder "http://Website" isn't accessible. The folder may be located on
an unavailable volume or protected with a password.

I have done what you suggested and the browser replies page not found. How
shall I proceed to remedy this error? so that I may logon to my remote site
and edit directly? THanks for the help.

If the page is not found, that indicates the extensions are not
installed/enabled.
