Login Failed. Project could not connect to server
Please check your username and password and try again.

Very similar to other login posts but with a twist. Start Project Pro, you
get that error but upon dismissing error Project immediately connects and
runs normally. I can repeat the problem on workstations and laptops running
XP and Vista.

Another twist... If you open a PWA session from ie Project Pro loads without
issues and works completely normally. Close the PWA session and Pro will
continue to work, closing and reopening works but only for ~ 60 minutes. PWA
connects normally and doesn't ask for authentication, uses the client's logon.

I'm running a single server implementation of Project Server 2007, this
problem has recently developed.

Could this be something to do with Web Page Security Validation? That's the
only thing I see with a time expiration.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks...

Update...

I don't think it's related to the 'web page security validation', I changed
that expiration time from the default 30 minutes to 5 minutes. Same
behavior. Even with it set to 5 minutes Project Pro worked normally for 30
minutes. Past 30 minutes the login error is displayed.

Same behavior. If I log into PWA, which starts normally, and then open
project pro, project pro connects to the server normally. Project Pro
continues to start normally and connect to the server for 30 minutes. Past
30 minutes I get the login error dialog box. Dismiss the dialog and project
pro connects and operates normally.

I’d really like to get rid of the errant login error dialog box.

Check your IE security zone settings. When you connect with Microsoft Project
Pro it uses the PWA URL to connect. If this URL is in a secure zone it might
fail - try to put in a zone with low security and see if you are able to
connect then.

I've added the server to trusted sites, turned that to low, checked various
settings similar to other posts. Plus, PWA loads normally every time.

After PWA is loaded, project pro behaves normally for 30 minutes, after 30
minutes it displays the logon warning ever time you start the program.
Restarting a PWA session and the problem goes away.

If it were a client security setting I would expect it to fail every time.
That's what's odd.
