Login Failed

Hello, I am using MS Project 2007 Professional on a laptop which is connected
to a wireless LAN. I have Project 2007 Server installed on a server on my
LAN. I should mention that both laptop and server are running 64-bit
Operating Systems.

I get the login failed error message when using Project 2007 Professional on
my laptop to attempt to open a project on the server where Project 2007
Server is installed unless I first visit the Project Web Access URL on my
laptop first.

It seems like Project Server must "wake up" by visiting the PWA URL before I
can successfully authenticate in Project Professional 2007. Any ideas would
be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tim,

Not having the complete picture on your setup, I am assuming the problem is
due to a timeout that occurs because the worker process takes longer time
starting than your proxy is configured to wait.

If you are using a "standard" VS generated proxy on the client side, you
should be able to specify a timeout value that will work for you. It is
indeed as you state that Project Server has to "wake up" with one exception:
It is not so much Project Server, but the whole infrastructure surrounding
IIS and the webservice. Another option would be to investigate the startup
options versus the keep alive options for IIS applications.

Another interesting piece of information would be to know if the same
happens if you try to run your client side app on the same box as the
server.

Hope this helps,

Hi Boaz, thanks for all of the wonderful tips. I will investigate all of
them. My setup is that I have Project Server 2007 installed on a server
computer with Windows Server 2003 Enterprise R2 64-bit version. I have
Project Professional 2007 installed on a Windows XP Professional 64-bit
laptop. I have a wireless LAN setup and am using my laptop to open a project
from the server. I have excellent connection speed as this is all in my
home.

I really appreciate your advice and had not thought of any of the things you
suggest. I will let you know how things work out. Thanks again for your
advice!
