Long Download Time on Web Pages

MELISSA COMPTON

I am working on an FP website on my local hard drive. One of the pages is
106kb. It consists of a list (a table) of about 150 photographs
(descriptions only) with a little gif image next to the name which is linked
to the corresponding photo. When I run a report in FP to look for possible
problems it indicates that the page with the list has a download time of 96
seconds. I thought that linking the gif to the picture would prevent a slow
download situation, but it doesn't appear to have solved the problem. Does
anyone have any suggestions about how to solve this problem? I didn't think
that 106kb was large for a page, but then again I'm a newbie when it comes
to web design.

106K is large for a page. If you include the "little gifs" this is probably
nearer to 400K , maybe a lot more - which is huge.
The Home page should be not more than (about) 40K or 50K and other pages
should be less than 60K. These sizes INCLUDE all the images that display in
the page. The target I use is twenty seconds to download and display the
Home page on a 28800 connection.

That page should be broken into several sections, at least three, four or
more would be better.
