FP2003/Vista - VERY slow on large webs ???

I'm using FP 2003 on Vista SP1.

WHen working with large webs on a network share (e.g. v:\thisweb), it
is exceedingly slow. It's about half the speed of XP doing the same
thing to the same server.

Opening an initial page (with a few includes) is noticeably slow.
Saving a page is very slow. Saving an include file that references a
couple dozen pages (always a little slow) is very, very slow. General
access times seem to be twice as long as on WinXP to the same web on
the same share on the same server. Preview is much slower, twice the
speed on XP.

I've also noticed that page display in MS IE7 is slow with these same
large webs. In contrast, Firefox on the same client takes half the
time MS IE7.

Also as an interesting note, if I load the same (slow) web to a web
server and view it from there, it displays at normal speeds in both
browsers.

It seems like there is some Vista bug with the retrieval process. It
can't be the server, since Firefox speed is fine. But, perhaps there's
some sort of negotiation going on for security or something?
