What are you trying to do

If just storeing data - set format to text
If using google maps API you need to convert to grid then send
If using msn maps you need to remove the "-" and replace with "+" then send

You need to give more details

I'd suggest using two single or double fields. I'm not sure if the
precision of GPS coordinates would require the extra digits of the
double field.
