looking for some good sites on layout etc

Hi
can anyone give me some links to good sites that cover basic page layout.
I'm an advanced Excel user and C++/Windows programmer who is comfortable
using Word and digging around in most of the options but would like some
good advice on making documents look nice.

The kind of thing I'm looking for is how to set up your page layout,
breaking up your text, use of tables and images, captions and titles, mixing
of fonts, sizes, weights etc, boxouts, sidebars, headers and footers etc.

So basically, quite a bit ;-)

I'm not as much after a "how to do " in terms of doing whatever is needed,
more a "what to do" in terms of making a document look a bit nicer than just
slapping a big wodge of text and adding a 14 point arial title to it, so the
little things like maybe adding those horizontal lines in your headers and
footers, and doing boxouts, or shaded regions, mixing italic sections.

I guess I'm after a style guide?

thanks in advance for any help, advice or useful web links
regards

Lee

First you start with a solid template (and it isn't normal.dot)! How to

Download the Word version for a good started template.
