losing data when relocking a form

I'm trying to develop a form on which to record census records. My
problem is that I need to be able to make adjustments to the form
frequently depending on the number of family members and also the
years for which I find records. Is there a way to do this without
losing the already entered data? To try to clarify: I've designed a
table for each census year and placed them sequentially in one Word
document. I want to have a separate document for each direct ancestor
but, of course, I don't need every year for every person so I'd want
to remove the unneeded years. Also, in some years there are 5 family
members and in others there are 10. I'd like to be able to have only
the number of needed lines. I'd prefer to have the form locked when
inserting data for at least 2 reasons (1) I don't want to
inadvertantly foul up my hard work designing the tables (2) I want to
be able to tab through the form without having to go through the
extensive column headings. This is not something that would all be
done at once. I might find 1890 today and 1850 a month from now so
it's not as if I could make adjustments to the document before
inserting the data. I'd also like to be able to just copy a filled
table from one document to another (father/son, etc.) and in the
process remove the blank table for that particular year. I hope this
is clear. I apologize for its length. Hope someone can help.
