Losing macros in template

Bonsai Bill

I am working on a book with several authors and we pass chapters by internet.
I have a template, Book.dot that includes a number of macros. The template is
attached to each chapter. Most of the time the template macros are available
to me. However, I sometimes lose the template macros on saving a chapter doc.

How can I avoid losing the macros? I have yet to share the template with
coauthors and need to understand what is happening so that I can tell them.
Word 2002 gives no warning of macros being dropped. (I exported modules and
forms for safe keeping and for putting back in to template.)

Thanks for your help!

If the chapters are created from the Book.dot template by using File>New and
that template is available on the machine, then there should be a reference
created automatically to that template whenever the document containing a
chapter is opened. Are you sure that the macros are in that template and
not in the Normal.dot template?

Hi Doug,

The files were created by creating a new document, then setting number
formatting because I use heading numbers and then attaching the template. I
have Autotext and found the attach method didn't require having to move it to
the file manually. from Templates and Add-Ins.

Perhaps there is a better, and safer way to do it? It puzzles me why I only
occasionally have the macros disappear and don't know what I did differently
to cause it.

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

I would be creating the file by selecting New from the File menu and then
select the template.
