loss of Spelling Checker (OS X rev. 10.4.8)

I seem to have lost my Spell Checker in Microsoft Word 2004, running
Mac OS X (10.4.8). I can't say when it happened, but it's gone! I seem
to have the spelling dictionaries in my Proofing Tools folder, but
that's not the answer, it seems. Thanks much! Tim

Hi Tim,

Probably what happened is that Word doesn't know what language the text
is supposed to be in. See the "Spell-Check Doesn't Catch Misspelled
Words" section on this page:
