If you are using Word freestanding (not starting it from the Works Task
Launcher), you will want to uninstall the Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for
Word (through Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs), which is most likely the
cause of the message about Normal.dot already existing (and a lot of other
problems that you would eventually run into). Also, if you have Norton
AntiVirus installed, disable the Norton Office Plug-in, which may be the
cause of the other message.

I got a new laptop for Christmas. Transfered my Works spreadsheets and
extensive Word97 writing files from the old laptop. Then bought Works Suite
2004 and installed Works 7.0 which reads the older spreadsheets just fine.
Also installed Word 2002 and now when I double-click on an older Word97
file, Word02 opens but an error message box then says, "The file (Name) is
not available." Then when I close Word02, an error message box says "The
file Normal already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file?" Help
please if anybody can.
