lost a file, does anyone know how I can recover?

I was working on a file in Word when it was suddenly
closed. I tried to access it but the program told me it
was no longer there. I have checked the Recycle Bin and
also ran a search, but with no results. I have noticed
that a file of similar size was created at the same time
my file was lost. It is a TMP file, and when I open it
there are 50 pages of box-shaped characters. Does anyone
know if I can recover the lost file from this TMP file or
if there is another solution I have not thought of? Thanks.

Word did not present you with an AutoRecovery backup the next time you
started? Do you have AutoRecover enabled?
