Lost " All" my contacts and my calendar

B

Brittany

Very urgent and vital
I was able finally to retrieve all my mails and folder
(under my " PST. File") in
My outlook folder by the following process:
Document and settings\ Local settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\ Outlook and found my outlook PST. File.

This process allowed me to retrieve all my mail
(received/ sent, fodders etc.) with the exception of my
contacts file (256 names) and my calendar loaded with
info...

Could you please tell me how I can recoup in its
integrality all my contacts file and my calendar file?
Could you please explain to me the step by step? THANK YOU

This process?
What would that be?
How can we tell what went wrong if you don't know what you did?

All you need to do is open your previous PST file with Outlook's File > Open
command. You can't lose data that way.

I may not clear to you.. that your opinion. Your answer
is vague.. when you are saying: open your previous PST
file with Outlook's File > Open >command! Are you
starting from outlook application/file/Data File
Management/open folder/or use /settings or add? I did
use Add and was able tom retrieve all my mail without my
caledar and my contacts.
Please try to me more clear... thanks

You did not specify what process you used to "retrieve" your data, so
troubleshooting your problem is impossible.
As I said, all you need to do is open your previous Outlook Data file (PST
file) using Outlook's "Open" command in the File menu. More specific
instructions cannot be provided because you also failed to post your Outlook
version. In some versions the next step would be "Outlook Data File." In
others it would be "Personal Folders file."
If you were opening the correct file, all you data would be there.
It is exceedingly difficult to provide more specific answers when posts
contain so little information. We cannot read minds.

Instead to be sarcastic let's be factual. if you don't
mind, I'm a Mac environment and NEW in the PC
environment..
My product is: Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (SP1), Part
of Microsoft Office Small Business 2003 Edition...
Tell me if that info can help so you can send me the step
by step... Don't Ever assume that people know everything..
Where you're not clear is when you say:
-Open your previous Outlook Data file (PST file) using
Outlook's "Open" command in the File menu!!! Again: are
you starting from,
1) Outlook application/file menu/Data File
Management/Outlook data File then you choose between 3
possibilities: Settings or Open Folder or add? WHICH ONE
IS IT??? OR
2) From Start/Explore/Documents and Settings/Local
Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/Outlook then you will
find a large PST file of Outlook that you Can't open???
If it's the first solution I need to know which one of
the last three one I should click on? THANKS..

I'm sorry. I don't know how to make it any more clear.
Yes. Of course I am talking about using the Outlook application.
File > Open > Outlook Data File...
You will then be given the opportunity to browse to the data file you want
to open. You should browse to and open the data file your "retrieved" from
your previous installation. I do not know the name and location of that
file. Only you would know that because you were the one who "retrieved" that
file. That was why I was asking you the process you used to retrieve that
file. Here is an article that provides the steps in detail on how to migrate
Outlook data in Outlook 2003. Post back if there is anything unclear in the

This is exactly what I did as explained in my prior e-
mail:
-File > Open > Outlook Data File... Then I choose the
appropriate file, the largest one since it incorporates
Mails, varied Folders, Calendar and my Contacts.
-Doing so, all my mails are back.
-Opening my contacts, it still empty and in my calendar
now, I have one blank calendar with month and dates
enumerate and a second one below with my info. I don't
NEED two, only the one with my data.
-I tried to delete the blank one. Did not let me do it.
-I put a check mark on the one I have interest, did work
but it's not a default one.
-Every time I'm opening outlook and need to go to my old
calendar, I have to put a check mark so it can show up.
Very annoying.
On the other hand, my contacts file still totally blank.
This site unfortunately:
http://office.microsoft.com/enus/assistance/HA010771141033
..aspx don't respond to my problem explain above!!!
Remaining problem:
1-Want to remove my blank default Calendar so the old one
with my data can take place and become my default: HOW?
-How can still retrieving my old contacts file.

Information:
-I did two weeks ago save my contacts file under Notepad -
TEXT format. How can I import from outlook this saved
file? Do you know the step by step?
Thanks

Let's back up a bit please. Did you save the Outlook Data File that your
previous installation was using? If so, how? If not, how did you create the
data file you are opening?
Once we find your old data, we can worry about consolidating everything into
one file.

Very simple.

First of all: I wanted to see how I could save my address
book on my desktop folder in case. I did under Notepad /
Format TEXT and still have it but don't know how to
export it back onto my outlook if in case I was loosing
all my data which in fact did happen few days later.

How this thing happens?
I was trying to fix an annoying message on my outlook
every time I was opening it.
So I went to my menu/help/ Detect and Repair put a check
mark on:
-Restore my shortcuts while repairing and
-Discard my customized settings and restore default
settings.

After doing so, outlook asked me to close the application
and to reopen it. I did and find out that I have a new
fresh outlook without any of my data file, they were all
gone! Panic...

This is what happens.

Is it helping you?

This should be easy then. Your data should be perfectly intact. Outlook
simply created a new profile with a new (empty) data file when you ran the
repair. Your previous Outlook Data File will still be on your hard drive.
Just search for *.pst to see a list of all the Outlook Data Files on your
hard drive. See which one is the largest. Open it in your current Outlook
installation using the File > Open > Outlook Data File... command. Once you
have verified that it is the correct file, just follow the instructions in
the article to reset Outlook to use that file as its default. Then you can
close any other PST files that are open in your profile.

This site unfortunately:
http://office.microsoft.com/enus/assistance/HA010771141033
.aspx don't respond to my problem explain above!!!

Thanks

-----Original Message-----
I'm sorry. I don't know how to make it any more clear.
Yes. Of course I am talking about using the Outlook
application.
File > Open > Outlook Data File...
You will then be given the opportunity to browse to the
data file you want
to open. You should browse to and open the data file
your "retrieved" from
your previous installation. I do not know the name and
location of that
file. Only you would know that because you were the one
who "retrieved" that
file. That was why I was asking you the process you used
to retrieve that
file. Here is an article that provides the steps in
detail on how to migrate
Outlook data in Outlook 2003. Post back if there is
anything unclear in the
article:

My product is: Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (SP1),

Tell me if that info can help so you can send me the

Where you're not clear is when you say:
-Open your previous Outlook Data file (PST file) using
Outlook's "Open" command in the File menu!!! Again: are
you starting from,
1) Outlook application/file menu/Data File
Management/Outlook data File then you choose between 3
possibilities: Settings or Open Folder or add? WHICH
ONE
IS IT??? OR
2) From Start/Explore/Documents and Settings/Local
Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/Outlook then you
will
find a large PST file of Outlook that you Can't open???
If it's the first solution I need to know which one of

You did not specify what process you used to "retrieve"
your data, so troubleshooting your problem is
impossible.
As I said, all you need to do is open your previous
Outlook Data file (PST file) using Outlook's "Open"
command in the File menu. More specific
instructions cannot be provided because you also failed
to post your Outlook
version. In some versions the next step would
be "Outlook Data File." In
others it would be "Personal Folders file."
If you were opening the correct file, all you data
would
be there.
It is exceedingly difficult to provide more specific
answers when posts
contain so little information. We cannot read minds.

I may not clear to you.. that your opinion. Your
answer
is vague.. when you are saying: open your previous

starting from outlook application/file/Data File
Management/open folder/or use /settings or add? I
did
use Add and was able tom retrieve all my mail
without
my
caledar and my contacts.
Please try to me more clear... thanks

This process?
What would that be?
How can we tell what went wrong if you don't know
what

All you need to do is open your previous PST file
with
Outlook's File > Open
command. You can't lose data that way.

Very urgent and vital
I was able finally to retrieve all my mails and
folder
(under my " PST. File") in
My outlook folder by the following process:
Document and settings\ Local settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\ Outlook and found my outlook PST.
File.

This process allowed me to retrieve all my mail
(received/ sent, fodders etc.) with the exception
of
my
contacts file (256 names) and my calendar loaded
with
info...

Could you please tell me how I can recoup in its
integrality all my contacts file and my calendar
file?
Could you please explain to me the step by step?
THANK
YOU

R: Thank you. I did execute word to word according to
your advice:
Result:
- I do have all my e-mails and created folders back.
- I was able to retrieve my calendar in a funny
way. When I click to my Calendar folder I have the new
clean one in without my data in and below that same
folder, I have my old one. All I need to do in order to
see on the right side, is to put a check on the box,
remove the other check mark on the new one to prevent two
identical calendar with and with out data.
Question:
- How can I remove/delete this new calendar without
data set up automatically as a default and replace by the
old one and set it up as default????
Contacts:
Regarding my contacts folder, it's still empty.
It is not in. What should I do?

Now as you remember, I told you that I have a while ago
that Contacts folder under notepad/ Text format. Do you
know how from Outlook I could import that Text/format
contacts file?

Last: you were saying: Once you have verified that it is
the correct file, just follow the instructions in the
article to reset Outlook to use that file as its
default...
It does help with the exception that, if you don't recoup
everything i.e. contacts folder or that wrong setting
calendar as explained above, you still have a couple of
issues to resolve. Do you how to do so?
-----Original Message-----
This should be easy then.

I was trying to fix an annoying message on my outlook

So I went to my menu/help/ Detect and Repair put a check
mark on:
-Restore my shortcuts while repairing and
-Discard my customized settings and restore default
settings.

After doing so, outlook asked me to close the application
and to reopen it. I did and find out that I have a new
fresh outlook without any of my data file, they were all
gone! Panic...

This is what happens.

Is it helping you?

Let's back up a bit please. Did you save the Outlook Data File that your
previous installation was using? If so, how? If not,
how
did you create the
data file you are opening?
Once we find your old data, we can worry about consolidating everything into
one file.

Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]

Ordinarily, when you reset Outlook to use your previous data file according
to these instructions there will be no issues whatsoever with any data loss
like you are describing. All the data remains in the PST file and you are
simply resetting Outlook to use it instead of the new, blank one it creates
when you install Outlook for the first time. There should be no need to copy
or migrate data from one file to the other.

From your description, it appears that the PST file you opened is either not
your original PST file (with all its data intact) or that you somehow lost
data from your original file when you were trying to export from it. You
appear to be trying to copy data from this older PST file into the new one
that Outlook created. Is that what you're trying to do?

Does the old PST file not contain your Contacts? If it does not, you might
want to open other PST files because there may be another that was your
original PST file that is still intact. You can probably import your
Contacts data from the TXT file you created, but it would be far better if
we can find your original Contact data. Exporting and importing through a
non-native file format will always lose data, so let's see if we can find
your original data first.
