Lost Formula Bar? Doesn't show up?

My husband did something to my computer when in the hospital and the
formula bar on Excel does not work anymore. It just shows a check or
uncheck? I tried reinstalling just Excel and it still doesn't show up.
It's the X version in Office and I am stumped. Any ideas?

Trashing the "Excel Toolbars (10)" pref. file should help you out.
