Lost information after upgrade from Outlook 2003 to 2007

R

Rob

I recently upgraded from outlook 2003 to outlook 2007. None of my information
carried through the upgrade, so I lost all emails and contacts. My emails
were on an IMAP server, so i was able to connect to that once more, but the
contacts have disappeared.

I have tried doing a search for the old PST files that would have been
associated with 2003, but no PST files whatsoever were found.

Any suggestions?

Also, I would like to restore the email from 2003 rather then keep this new
IMAP'd profile

No they haven't. They're still in the old PST. Installing Outlook 2007
creates a new mail profile and a new default PST.
I have tried doing a search for the old PST files that would have been

PSTs are, by default, created in a hidden folder. On Windows XP, they're in
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and on
WIndows Vista they're in %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook. Open Windows
Explorer and enter whichever of those paths are appropriate to your
operating system into the Address field. Click the Go button or press
Enter. Explorer will open the folder.

If you were using an IMAP account in Outlook 2003, unless you moved messages
from the server to a local folder set, it's all stll on the server. That's
the point of using IMAP. What you say about the non-mail items, like
Calendar, and Contacts, however, is true - it's in your local PST.

I upgraded from 2003 to 2007 and now cannot find any of my accounts. I still have contacts, but not accounts. I found the files Mr. Tillman mentioned in this thread (%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook), but now that I've found them, have no idea how to restore them or get them active again.... I shared this on Microsoft's forum, but got no replies.... Help, please! Thanks.

Use File > Open from within Outlook, and browse to the PST.

For future reference, you may find this link to be very helpful:

Did you create a new mail profile? Upgrading should detect that you had a
mail profile already set up and reuse it, but if you started with a new mail
profile, you'll have to set your accounts up again. That's usually better
anyway. The data files you found do not contain the account information.

Hi,

I am just installed Office 2007 Pro onto my co-worker's computer. We lost all the contacts, and all the old emails. I don't know how to retrieve them, and she is quite upset. Can anyone help?

I read some of the other answers and I don't know what a pst file is. We are a tiny office with just 3 people and we do not have an IT person. I installed the software not realizing this would happen. Hopefully someone can help and she doesn't have to stay mad at me for long.

Thank you

Upgrading an installation never loses data. Sometimes it will create a new
Outlook profile with a new empty data file, but your old data file is right
where it always was. If you don't know, just search for it. Make sure you
enable the display of hidden files and search for *.pst. Once you find it,
open it in Outlook with File > Open > Outlook Data File.
For future reference, you never update software like Outlook without first
backing up your data file.
