I have lost all my personal macros in my Word document. Anyone knows how to
recover them if at all possible. Please

Sorry forgot to say that I am running XP home and Office 97 and removed my
signature. I delete theses macros I presume by answering wrongly to the
question "do you want to save normal.dot" Thanks

I *think* you are out of luck.
Never save anything of "value" in Normal.dot
If becomes corrupted (and it will) Word will spontaneously create a new
one and you'll lose your customizations, macro's etc.

I will not dispute your advice, but I have been using Word for almost ten
years and I have never experienced a corrupted Normal.dot. AFAIK Word has
never spontaneously created a new one either. I store all kinds of macros
and customizations in Normal.dot but I have multiple backups in case the
doom that your speak of ever knocks on my door :)

But please is it recoverable if I accidently delete them. Since than I found
two previous macros but unfortunately they are not the last one. Where
should i save them?

again

Mailman,

The statement of your problem is rather vague for anyone to be able to tell
you what happened and how to keep it from happening again.

How did you lose them? What, if anything, did you do before you discoverend
them missing?

With your document open have you opened the VBA editore (ALT+F11) and looked
for you macros in the Project modules? Do you have a backup copy of your
document or your template where your macros are stored?

You might find the following helpful for managing your macros:

In my experience, you (and Susan) have been fortunate (or-more
likely-better skilled than I)!
I guess I should have added what you did (".....backups..") but I
assumed that the OP was not aware he/she should back up his hard work
given that he was asking about how to get his macro's back.

I am learning a lot here but realize that I did not know anything before and
up to now realize also that my case is lost in finding my macros because it
seem that I must have delete my normal.dot template if that is ever possible
in a normal saving procedure. When we are not a guru in Word we may
sometimes it seems create a whole mess or a whole lost without even knowing
but thank God I am learning because of your patience in telling me. I think
I will have to recreate my little bunch of macros one by one.But now how do
I make sure that they are available to any document if I do not put them in
normal.dot . I am a little confuse here. I am getting afraid of saving now .
Sometimes with these normal.dot in the background we really do not know if
we should answer yes or no to a save question.

Mailman,

Like I said earlier, most of my macros are in my Normal.dot despite any
advice I might get to the contrary. It is more convienient for me and since
I have never lost my Normal.dot and regularily back it up, I don't find it a
problem.

You can put your macros in a global template that it located in your Word
Startup directory and they will be available to all documents. See:
