Lost menu bar in Excel. Need to restore

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

My excel menu bar stopped showing up a few days ago and I need to restore it. I have tried to reset customized toolbars, but the menu bar isnt even listed there anymore.
I read online something about deleteing an .xlb file, but I have been unable to find it to delete.

I dont know if it is helpful to know that I created a spreadsheet a few weeks ago and that is linked to data in another workbook. Not sure if that created the problem..

help!

First, just to ease your mind a bit: Mac Excel doesn't use .xlb files...
They're a "Windows only" construct [I'm not even sure the PC version still
uses them] so they would have nothing to do with your situation :) Also, it
is not at all likely that linking workbooks or anything you've done in Excel
has anything to do with it either - that's purely coincidental.

Now - If you go into the Customize Toolbars & Menus dialog by right-clicking
a toolbar, are you saying that Workbook Menu Bar is not listed as the very
first item in the list on the Toolbars and Menus page? Make sure you haven't
scrolled down in the list - that & Chart Menu Bar should always be there
with no way to remove either of them. Check again & if it is listed click
its Name, then click the Reset button.

If it truly isn't in that list there is something very wrong. Make sure you
have OS X (10.5.6) and Office (12.1.5) fully updated, repair disk
permissions & restart your Mac. If you still have no Menu try logging in
with a new User Account & see if Excel works normally there.

If none of the above succeeds post back with your efforts & results in order
to pursue it further. BTW - Have you installed any new anti-virus or
utility/helper/haxie/add-in software prior to the disappearance?

Thanks.. I just checked and Workbook Menu Bar is listed and checked. I think what I was missing was the standard toolbar. I played around with it and it showed up. thanks again!! whew :)

Now I cant get the standard toolbar to automatically show up when I start excel. I have to manually view it. How can I make sure it starts with every workbook???
Under custom toolbars the standard toolbar shows 'docked' checked but its greyed out.

Most likely you need to click the oblong "tic-tac" button at the right end
of the Title Bar in order to expand the toolbar area.
