Lost messages after converting from non-unicode to unicode PST

Followed Microsoft procedure to convert from non-unicode to unicode pst in
Outlook 2003, the new pst is missing messages from Inbox (about 1,000) and
Deleted (about 700). Any suggestions?

Assuming the non unicode pst is still available, open this within OL. Then
create a new unicode pst and copy msgs across.
BTW why keep deleted msgs, at least in deleted. You use the Archive option?

Ok, I can do that, but any ideas why certain emails won't import? Copying
them over will be fairly timne-consuming, and I have about 30 of these to do.
Trust me, not my choice to keep 1500msgs in deleted items, but user insists.
Yes, we do archive.

I dont know specifically why import causes this, excepting if you read posts
in OL specific ng's the MVP reccomendation is not to use Import/Export as it
can lead to data (msg) loss
I hope the user doesnt press empty :(

Ok, appreciate the advice. And I have seen those recommendations not to use
import. BTW, I was also advised by Microsoft tech support to NEVER compact a
pst file. SO, your recommendation for converting non-unicode to unicode would
be to just create the empty unicode pst and copy everything from the
non-unicode into it?

I've never seen anything re not compact, I have seen it reccomended.
The MVP posts I have read have allways suggested, create a unicode pst then
copy across, they further stated that use of the import/export option can
lead to data loss.
I believe I read a post that stated OL2007 would not have the Import/Export
feature, for the pst.
