Lost messages? Where did they go?

Going through today's email I accidently leaned on
the "Delete" key, and the last two weeks of my Inbox was
deleted. No problem, just move it back from the Deleted
Items folder (by selecting and dragging). Did that in
three batches -- first two were fine, then on the last one
I got a dialog box that said "Creating an item from these
79 items will take some time -- Continue, Cancel". I
cancelled and re-selected them, and got the same message.
So I clicked "Continue", though it seemed wrong. Indeed it
was! It took a while, and the 79 messages are totally GONE!

They're NOT in the Deleted Items folder, and they're NOT
in the Inbox. Where did they go? (Ctrl-Z didn't help!)

I've lost about a week's worth of saved email here, and
I'd really like them back!

TIA, Stuart

Stuart,

Try this to see if it helps.
1. Go to the Deleted Items folder
2. Select Tool->Recover Deleted Items...
3. Look for the messages/folder in the list of deleted
items.
4. Select the items you want to restore (hopefully they
are there).
5. Click the icon for Restore

If you could do the above 5 steps you should have
recovered the emails.

Hmmm... seems this requires that I'm using an Exchange
server, which I'm not. I did find this in the Help, and an
article on the support pages. So, the misleading dialog
permenently trashed these messages? *sigh*

Namaste,
Stuart
