Lost Source

G

Guest

Hello:

I made the mistake of running a "remove duplicate files"
program and erased many of my Front Page source files.
How can I download my website to frontpage so that all of
the links, style sheets, Themes, and buttons are also
downloaded and that I have recovered the complete site
into Frontpage?

Thank you.

Don Gerue
Website is www.susanvillesymphony.com

Thank you for the advice. I did not realize that you
could open an online site with Frontpage. I tried the
ftp site and it would not take that and I tried the
website address. In short, I don't know how to do it.
Can you help me further please.

Don

Open the online site with FP, then Publish back down to
your local hd...in this case it'd probably be a good idea
to Publish it to a New Web...not the old local copy.
You'll be prompted for name and location.

Rob:

Thank you so much. The sun is shining again. I really
appreciate your prompt help. The Frontpage
documentations sure does not make it clear.

Open FP
Open Web (Site)
type in: www.susanvillesymphony.com some times you don't need the 'www'
You'll be prompted for your un/pw...enter them..click ok.
Then
File | Publish
Enter the location on your C: drive where your webs are
stored...use a new web name this time.
It'll take awhile since you'll be publishing everything back to your hd.

note...this 'may' also bring down web logs...which I
generally will mark to NOT publish from local to online
server or you may be errors because the logs are usually
not writeable on the server.

Rob:

In FP2003, I do not see that option. I look under FILE | Open... and FILE |
New.

In the (fully expanded) File menu of FP2003 I see

New ...
Open ...
Close
Open Site ...
Close Site

R

Ronx

File->Open Site
In the next dialogue, either:
Click in Network Places (in the Look in column) and choose a location from
the list,
Or:
in the location dropdown, type in http://www.example.com/

When requested, give username and password, site opens.... if it is FP
extended.

M

Murray

if it is FP extended.

This means if the site has access to FP extensions?

Suppose I have a site that does not have access to that, yet is hosted on a
server that provides them?

M

Murray

Okie Dokie. That's the part I needed.

What about a site that is hosted on a non-FP extension server? Is there any
way to get that using FP?

OK - I get that. How do I do it? When I try to open the site, I am

Maybe... ftp it down - make put everything in one folder and then open that
folder with FP and when prompted let FP create a web out of it. I've never
done this but it should work.

There's another tedious way to do it with your Browser and the Edit
button...but you have to do every dang page and then make sure you've gotten
all the files - I've done this when I wanted to disect a design and see how
the orig. designer did what he did.
