Lost styles?

This has happened to me in more than one file. I have the Styles and
Formatting panel open on the right side of the screen. All is going normally
- when I place the cursor into text with a particular style, the window at
the top of the panel shows the style for that text.

However, now when I go through the text, the window only shows "Default
Paragraph Font". I can still change styles normally, but I wonder if I
unwittingly did something to cause this to happen.

Any ideas?

PS - still struggling with TOC formatting

Hi =?Utf-8?B?V0csIExJ?=,

At the bottom of the Styles and Formatting pane there's a dropdown list. Choose
"Custom" from that. The dialog box that appears sets what is and is not shown
in the task pane list. I'm guessing that most of the styles and such have
somehow been "unchecked"?

I've never experienced Word doing this all by itself. Might you have some kind
of tool or Addin that could be changing these settings?
