lost subject heading

The "subject" column has disappeared from my e-mail viewer. How can I
restore it


You either need to reset the view or apply the previous view.

to reset: Right click on the row of field names and choose Customize. The reset button is at the bottom of the dialog.

to apply a view: go to the view menu - Messages is the default view.
