Lost word docs

[Michael \(IT Support\)]

Collegue has created word docs on the Friday on his
laptop and sync with co. server. Has worked offline on
the weekend, made large changes to these docs. Logged
into work and sync on the Monday. Now can't find these
changed docs anywhere. Even with extensive searches,
cannot find them. Only evidence I can find that this has
happened are these files found on the laptop
named "change.log.1" and "change.log.2"
and "change.log.3" that were created on the weekend
