Lots of Connections from Project Server 2003 to SQL Server 2000

The administrator for the SQL Server has been reporting 180 connections
from my Project Server, which are on different machines. There are only
about 5 people that enter data through project pro and maybe about the
same with web access only. What could be causing this?

Sliderbot:

Project 2003 is real chatty with SQL, so this number may be explained by
that. But, what is your SQL admin telling you? Total connections? Concurrent
Connections? I doubt that it's the latter.

We are seeing the high number of concurrent processes, though most are
not actively processing at the same time. In anticipation of someone
saying this is not big deal if they are not actually processing at the
same time - it is a big deal in the sense that we have over 400
databases on the server and if all apps were allowed to have that many
open connections at a time we would be seeing memory problems (each
connection takes up memory).

Keep in mind that the application was created to read from a local hard
drive. For this reason, the architecture is completely changed in 2007.
