hi
lotus 2.4
i think (if memory serves me correct) that is a WK4 format.
WK4 was supported by excel intill 2007. so i suspect that you have 2007 AND
microsoft has quit supporting lotus altogeather since 2007.
work around.....find someone who still has excel 03 or earlier. open and
save as a .xls file. 2007 can open those. if you know someone who has lotus
2k, open and save as a .xls. (lotus 2k will save a file in excel format
faster that excel can save a excel file in excel format. impressive.)
you may wish to do a google on lotus files to excel files converter. i am
sure there are a number of packages out there. some may want money so that
would depend on your degree of desperation.
wish i could help more but since microsoft, in it's monolithic glory, has
decided not to support lotus anymore, individuals like yourself have been
left high and dry.

Good luck

lotus 2.4 -> excel 2003 -> google

Thanks !

I, with your help, have succeeded in solving that original registry problem.

But I now have succeeding questions, to convert the excel 2003 spreadsheets
to google spreadsheets.

Ultimately, I need to convert some 230 Lotus 2.4 spreadsheets to google.

The first issue is that the Lotus 2.4 spreadsheets, when opened in excel
2003 (which can be converted to google), correctly displays in the window at
the top of the excel 2003 spreadsheet, the contents of the cell where the
cursor happens to be. The critical case is when the cell contains a named
range/cell from a linked spreadsheet. Although in the top window the name in
the linked cell is correct, in the body of the spreadsheet, the corresponding
cell contains #VALUE! , instead of what is correctly displayed in the top
window.

A later question would be: is there an automated way to convert all 230
spreadsheets at once, in bulk as it were, or must each spreadsheet be
converted individually, by hand ?

If you'd care to email me, my address is (e-mail address removed).

Thanks again !

I have solved the registry problem, and been advised to write a
conversion program in Visual Basic. But that appears a formidable
task.

The first issue is that the Lotus 2.4 spreadsheets, when opened in
excel 2003 (which can be converted to google), correctly display in
the window at the top of the excel 2003 spreadsheet, the contents of
the cell where the cursor happens to be. The critical case is when the
cell contains a named range/cell from a linked spreadsheet. Although
in the top window the name in the linked cell is correct, in the body
of the spreadsheet, the corresponding cell contains #VALUE! , instead
of what is correctly displayed in the top window.
Clearly, a threshold issue is the ".wk1" extension in the link
address, which must ultimately be converted to ".xls" .

I've also been advised to consider the excel fn "indirect" . Again,
I haven't a clue.

A later question would be: is there an automated way to convert all
230 spreadsheets at once, in bulk as it were, or must each spreadsheet
be converted individually, by hand ?

Please respond by email to me : (e-mail address removed) .
