Mac/PC Compatibility

I am working on a Mac using PowerPoint X. The presentation I am designing
will be run on a PC. This presentation will have many animations. I am aware
that there are issues related to this, and that it may not be possible at
all. Does anyone know the best animation formats (animated GIFs or
QuickTime) to use to ensure that the animations designed on a Mac will play
on a PC? Does anyone know for sure that what I am attempting is possible or
not?

If you're going to be running this on PowerPoint 2000 or later on the
Windows side, the animations should play provided you have the option
checked on the Windows computer. I would recommend using animated GIFs if
at all possible.

Thanks for that.

I've done a test with my client. I've got a PPT with an animated GIF on one
of the slides. I've sent this PPT file to my client, along with the GIF
file, and asked them to open the PPT, view as a slideshow, and see if the
animation works.

My client receives the message "quicktime and a GIF
compressor needed to see this picture."

My client is running PowerPoint 2002 and Windows XP.

How do we get around this? I'm hoping there's another solution short of
specially configuring every computer that's likely to play this. Please let
me know.

This is a strange one! We have had no problems using PP 98 Mac and
running PPT's with inserted JPGs and GIFs on windows 2000 PPT 2000.
Now using PPT 2001 Mac OS9, the PPT files with inserted JPGs and GIFs
show a QuickTime needed message on the windows 2000 PPT 2000 machines!
This is at a Univ. that officially does not support macs and thus will
not install QuickTime.

Any fixes for this?

Hi

I think that even with QuickTime installed, the Windows computers may have
trouble with it.

Jim,

My issue is with straightforward GIFs and JPGs. It seems that PPT 2001
and X may be importing them using QuickTime instead on the PPT
filters. Windows PPT should have NO problem showing JPGs and GIFs. So
much for compatibility! Time to go back to Office 98? It worked.
