Mac person having problems with new Hotmail POP account

I'm on a Mac, 10.4.11, Safari browser, trying to do the mandatory
conversion to POP by Sept 1.

Going by the instructions, I did create a new Hotmail account. When I
go to Tools/Accounts my new account is there along with the other
accounts. BUT, it is NOT shown in the Folders List. I do have a
Windows Live account. When I tried to send an email to the new POP
account, entourage doesn't recognize the POP account name.

POP accounts don't show up in the folder list. All mail goes to the Inbox or
if you use a rule to another folder.

You are also going to get different behavior with POP over the old web
account. Mail is not kept on the server and will only be available for the
computer where you download UNLESS you select "keep on server" under the
Options tab in the Account window. You'll need to watch that you don't go
over the limit allowed.

Diane,

Thank you for responding so rapidly. I am still having problems
understanding what is going on. Here's a short history.

I have 2 hotmail accounts. Let's call them (e-mail address removed) and
(e-mail address removed). Several months ago I got on Windows Live and set up an
account under (e-mail address removed). Never got around to really looking at
it. In my entourage, now getting emails ³To continue to receive e-mail
from your Hotmail account². I went to the instructions provided
http://windowslivehelp.com/solutions/dav/archive/2009/04/23/start-using-
hotmail-with-entourage.aspx and followed them.
1. I went to Windows Live and signed in with abc.hotmail.com and then
signed out.
2. It states ³Click the arrow next to New and then click mail². I did
and I wondered why I had to create a ³new² account. I did, and named it
(e-mail address removed). Why couldn't I just change my existing xyz account
to POP? Also, what happens with all my folders under zxyz?

I then created xzpop and ran into my problems.

Per your instructions, today,I sent an email to (e-mail address removed) from
(e-mail address removed). Entourage took it. You state it goes into my Input
folder. Which input folder? I cannot find it anywhere. Does this mean I
have to set up a Window Live xyzpop account?

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand what is going on.

failed.

You use your email address not account name.

FWIW, you CAN force Entourage to put POP accounts in the folder list (at
least E 2004). In Account Settings, double-click on the account, and select
the options tab. Check the box labeled
Allow online access (shows account in folder list)

You can then access the account directly on the server. That's only useful,
of course, if you have your POP account set to leave messages on the server
rather than deleting them when it downloads them to your computer.

Thank you! If, and when, I get to that point, I'll certainly use it.
