Macbook & WiFi internet access: Email access& Messenger/Adium access issue

I am using MACBook White, OSX10.5.7.

My Macbook works fine on Wireless@SG and at home Singnet ADSL with external WiFi AP.
- Wireless surfing
- E-mail via Mail.app
- E-mail via Entourage
- Adium accounts(MSN) works fine

I can surf the net (Safari & Mozilla) & login to Skype, regardless of which free WiFi access point my Macbook is connected to.

However, I cannot access email via Entourage & Apple Mail, cannot login Messenger/Adium when I am connect to any other hotspot WiFi access Point and my school or office. Pls note these Wifi hotspots are free access, i.e. no need for username & password or any authentication. For my school or office, I have access rights to connect to the WiFi AP.

Pls advise how to configure my Macbook to receive emails via Entourage/Apple Mail, and also to be connected to Messenger/Adium network. Pls be informed that my Entourage & Apple Mail are configured from Gmail account.

Pls also be informed that this problem does not occur with a Windows-based laptop or PC.

Your ISP probably requires certain security in place when you access it from
outside your home network. Check with the customer support pages on their
web site for details.

Presumably your Windows-based computers have the right configuration in
place. Check to see that your Mac Entourage is configured identically,
especially with respect to such features as SSL, ports, and logins.
