Macmail's thin blue line

When someone replies to a message in macmail, it adds these vertical lines to
denote the level of quotation. On a mac, there's a formatting option to raise
or lower these levels, but in outlook they are utterly frustrating.

When I try to insert a reply beneath quoted text, my reply is automatically
formatted the same as what I am replying too, with the lines being impossible
to remove in those paragraphs except by changing the whole message to plain
text, and then quotation levels, normally denoted as >, disappear.

Is there a place in outlook where I can control these vertical lines?

Your choices are:
Use Mark my reply with (tools, options, email options)
Convert all messages to plain text (easiest with 2002/2003)
Open the message then Edit, Edit Message and convert to plain text, save and
reply.
