Macro Driven Buttons from Access 2003 don't work in 2007

I am sending an Access database out that was created in 2003 that is almost
completely macro button driven. When Access 2007 users open the database, the
buttons do not generate the reports, queries, tables they should. Sometimes
they get a message on enabling macro security but most times the button just
doesn't work. How do you enable macro security in 2007? Are there any
screenshots available that I can use to send to the 2007 users who don't have
technical support? We can't upgrade to 2007 until we scrape up about $20,000
for individual site licenses so I am trying to put a bandaid on the issue.
Help?

Kathy,

One key factor is that the application will need to be placed in a
Trusted Location on the Access 2007 computers. Have you attended to that?

As for the $20,000 - you realise that the Access 2007 Runtime is
available as free download from Microsoft website?

As I am sending out the database to users across our entire network and I do
not know the specific installations of each one - I can only assume that the
standard install places the application in a trusted location. I know there
is something in Access 2007 that allows for changing Macro Security levels
that the 07 users have to set for the buttons in an 03 database to work. I
need to know where that is.

Access Runtime is great for free for me. We need to get the whole MS Office
Suite Professional and that is what will cost the $20,000 plus.

That is a big assumption. I don't know what the "standard install" is,
but I really recommend you go to some of the Access 2007 machines and
double check the trust settings.

I am not sure what you could be referring to here, but if the database
is in a trusted location no other action should be necessary.

I ended up finding the instructions I was looking for on a website. Here is
what I was asking for "Opening Access 2003 Application in Access 2007".

In Access 2007, you can change your macro settings by clicking the new
Microsoft Office Button in the upper-left corner of the screen and then
clicking Access Options at the bottom of the menu. The Microsoft Office
Button provides access to file-related actions and options that apply to your
Access installation.

In the Access Options dialog box, click the Trust Center tab, and then click
Trust Center Settings. In the Trust Center dialog box, select the Macro
Settings tab and choose whether to run macros and whether you receive
notification if macros are disabled

We had two computers here using Access 2007 and loaded an Access 2003
database to test these instructions to enable the macro-driven buttons and
they worked like a champ.

As indicated in my earlier replies, setting the folder that the database
is installed in as a Trusted Location is superior to the method you have
outlined, and equally simple, so I am not sure why you would do it the
way you have. But anyway, I am pleased to know that from your point of
view you have solved it.
