macro error message

DesertBabe

I installed the software for a graphics tablet. When I select the "pencil" on
the toolbar that the software installed in word, I get an error message "The
macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of your Macro security
settings."
I have lowered the settings down to medium, then low.
I have downloaded and installed the latest service pack update for Word 2000.
I have followed instructions in one of the articles to go to the Visual
Basic Editor.
All to no avail!
Please help....TY, Carol

When you changed your Macro Security did you also restart Word? If not, try
restarting to make sure the add-in will load correctly.

If you still encounter difficulty then chances are the problem lies in the
add-in. It could be they renamed the macro after adding it to the toolbar
and as the message indicates, it can't be found. That being the case you can
try running it manually from Tools/Macro/Macros and see if it works that
way.

Thank you Beth, for your response. Yes I had restarted Word.

I went into Macro > Macros and hit on one or two choices to no avail. Then
I hit on one called "OnPen" thinking that it may have something to do with
the pen and the tablet....well it did and it worked but each time I go in to
Word, I have to choose "OnPen". Isn't there an easier way? I guess I don't
really understand what Macros are. There is a list of about 20 of them.

If the macro is there and you can run it then it sounds like the macro is no
longer "connected" to the button on your toolbar. This can happen if they
renamed the macro or perhaps the project. Here are the steps you can use to
recreate the button on your toolbar:

- Go to Tools/Customize
- On the Commands tab, locate Macros in the Categories
- Find your "OnPen" macro and drag/drop it to a toolbar

To modify the appearance:
- Right-click the new button and select "Default Style" (I think that's what
it is - going from memory here - you should see an image after selecting it)

If you want to copy the image from the other button then right-click it and
select "Copy Image", then right-click your newly added button and select
"Paste Image".

You should be able to drag off the nonfunctioning button and remove it but
it could be temporary. If when you restart Word it reappears then
unforunately there is little you can do about it since the add-in recreates
it.

I am keeping ur instructions but I was stopped at the 1st paragraph!! There
is no "OnPen" listed. I really can't read the entire line. I see that this
site won't allow attachments but I prepared 4 little files of what it is that
I see for your perusal. If you care to, I would like to mail them to you. My
e-mail address is [email protected] .....thanks for all ur help,
Carol

I don't need to view the screen shots - I know exactly what you are seeing -
but thanks anyway. :)

What you are seeing is the name of the module the macro is stored in first.
Unforunately there isn't a way to resize the dialog box so the only thing
you can do is drag the first macro to the toolbar so you can read the entire
name. It might be something like: Module1.OnPen. If it's not the correct
command then drag it off and try the next one. Rinse lather and repeat until
you find it. ;-)

I've encounterd this before and I had to reset my toolbars in order to get
any macros placed on the toolbar to start working again.

Back in the Tools/Customize dialog box make sure Save In reflects your
Normal.dot and then on the Toolbars tab, select Standared and click Reset.
Do the same for the Formatting toolbar if you added any of the macros to it.
Depending on how the buttons for the add-in were created they may or may not
end up getting reset as well.

You noted you made sure all macros were saved in Normal.dot? Typically the
macros for your "OnPen" would be stored in a global template - not
Normal.dot.

Check your Macros list under Tools/Macro/Macros. What macro names do you see
there? You should be able to select each one and copy/paste the names.
