Macrons - compatibility between Mac and PC

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop When I use macrons (e.g. Māori) in emails, the come up as question marks (?) at the other end if the user is on a PC.

Macrons translate fine between PC and Mac when using WORD, the problem is only with Entourage. Is there a setting I migh missing? Any chance this issue could be resolved with Office 2008?

This typically is an encoding issue. At this point, it could be that
Entourage is not using the proper encoding method (you can change that
manually) or that the client software for the recipient doesn’t decode
properly.
At this point it’s hard to tell...

Hi there, thanks for the response to my question re: macrons. Any chance you could explain how to change encoding methods manually? Cheers, Dyanna

I have the same problem. Not sure when in character set which setting to
use. I have MÄori and an Australian keyboard activated in Mac. hte
Characoer set is on automatic. What should I change it to?

I changed from automatic to Unicode (bottom of the list) and messages with macrons all fine. I have yet to figure out how to change to Unicode as preference for all messages - at the moment I am selecting unicode on each individual message. cheers, Dyanna

Thanks Dyanna. I have unicode utf 7 and unicode utf - 8 on my mac.
Is any one better than the other?
