Macros-enable or disable

Karen

Every time I turn on Word 2002 there is a message to
enable or disable a Macro-I have tried to follow the
instructions because I think it has something to do with a
Certificate, but nothing works. The macro that is showing
up is c:\program files\microsoft office\office 10
\startup\LEXlink.dot. This obviously has something to do
with a LEXIS program I installed, and I am really not sure
if I will need this macro. Short of trying to delete the
file is there any way to let word know that the macro is
safe, so I don't have to click "enable macro" everytime I
start Word?

When you get the dialog that asks you to enable the macro, there should be a
check box for "Always trust macros from [whoever supplied this one]." Check
that box and you won't see the dialog again.

Hi Karen,

As of Word 2002 the Office\Startup folder is no longer considered a
trusted source unless it is the Word Startup folder found under
Tools/Options/File Locations.

You can either modify the location of your Word Startup folder or
moveLEXlink.dot to your Word Startup folder in order to trust macros
contained in the template.

To specify you wish to automatically trust all installed templates and
add-ins then go to Tools/Macro/Security and on the Trusted Sources tab
turn on "Trust all installed templates and add-ins".

I recommend moving the template instead of pointing the Word Startup
location to the Office\Startup folder.

Many third party manufacturers utilize the Office\Startup folder for
their templates/add-ins. If you allow Word to automatically trust this
folder it becomes difficult to monitor when a global template/add-in
has been added to Word. The prompt to enable/disable macros will help
alert you to third party add-ins. Then for those you wish to use you
can move them to your Word Startup folder. For those you don't they
can either be deleted or moved out of the Office\Startup folder.

I know, when this happened to me with a "palm program"
that box appeared, but there wasn't a check box in the
dialog box with this one.

In that case, read Beth's better reply.
