Im a computer guy and I dont know nothin about macros.
But since im the IT man I have to give this slight
problem a shot.. So bear with me.....

I have a network here.. There is a document on the
server i want to retrieve. Only when I open this
particular document, on this very computer, It is
different than when I pull up the document on another
workstation. Not much different but its just the first
line of the document. There are extra charecters there
that I cant edit out. When I brought the document up on
another computer a window displayed the document was
locked for editing.

Gimmie a short ex of what a macro is?

Hi Jeff,

A macro is a set of instructions that performs a specific task. In
Word these instructions are written in Visual Basic for Applications
(VBA).

However I don't think what encountering is due to a macro. I suspect
the document is being opened in Recovery Text Format on the specific
workstation. This format allows one to recover text from a document
that is corrupt.

In Word go to Tools/Options/General and turn on "Confirm conversion at
Open" and then open the document.

If the Confirm Conversion dialog box displays then make sure you
select Word Document.

If this isn't it then what is the first line of the document?
