mail merge from excell

I go through the mail merge wizzard importing my data from excell.
Everything is fine until I get to preview envelopes. The number of
recipients appears correct between the foward and back arrows but no send to
address information appears on the envelope or is printed.

The obvious question: have you actually placed any fields on the envelope?
When you use this wizard it does not insert any fields automatically.
