From the Contact Detail window (I get there usually through the contact
search box) I should be able to mail merge that contact to an existing
document, such as letter, envelope, or fax. I always have to go back to
Contacts and look up the contact there, highlight it, then select Tools->Mail
Merge... Why can't you put the same command under the Contact Detail window?
