Mail merge problem with zip codes starting with 0

When doing a mail merge from excel to Word, all Zip Codes starting with a 0
will not transfer over correctly into Word. All other zip codes merge fine,
but the 0 starting zip codes just show up as 0. I have tried formatting the
cells as a zip code and as text, and nothing seems to resolve this.

Anyone know why this might be occuring?

that behaviour is normal
when you have a regular spreadsheet, and you enter dollar amounts, do you
normally enter 2000 as 02000? of course not.
excel does not differentiate between what is a regular number and what is a
zip code
to get around it, you have to change the format of the cell that has the zip
code to text; then you can insert the first 0 and it will stay
that's a problem i've had before and got around it by doing it that way

In your Excel file, have you tried adding an apostrophe (') in front of each
zip code that starts with 0? Adding an apostrophe before a zero keeps the
zero in place.
