Mail Merge Propagation

When I click "Update all labels" via the Mail Merge Wizard or manually click
"Propogate Labels," only the first three cells and the last two cells
actually propogate. Also, the little counter on the mail merge toolbar will
not go to anything before 8 (of 14). Help!

Are you doing this on a tablet PC. If so, it is a problem that has cropped
up before and has not been completely solved as yet. Fellow MVP Peter
Jamieson has been very involved in some research into this and I received an
email from him the other day that contained the following information

"if you use the keyboard to select the Propagate Labels button in the Mail
Merge Wizard, then use the
spacebar to "click" the button, the function works correctly."

Give that a try and post back with how you get on.

Wow, bizarre. I do have a tablet PC. I should have posted earlier instead
of wasting so much time trying to figure it out on my own! What a random bug!

Your work around worked, although I was lucky enough to have someone here
who knew to right-click on the wizard pane in order to be able to tab through
the options and get to "Update Labels." Otherwise it just tabs through the
cells in the document.

Thanks Doug =)

Hi Tanya,

Can you tell us what brand and model of tablet you are using. We are trying
to get something done about this issue.

I also am using a tablet PC and am having the same problem generating labels.
I do not know how to get into a wizard for the mail merge, I just use the
icons to work my way through. I could not figure out how to use the keybosrd
to "click" the propogate button using the spacebar. Please help!

I could not figure out how to use the keybosrd
to "click" the propogate button using the spacebar.

It isn't at all straightforward, but once you've remembered the steps it
certainly isn't hard...
a. If the Word "Task Pane" is not on display, use View|Task Pane to display
it, then...
b. if the "Mail Merge" task pane is not currently displayed, click the
down-arrow (little black traingle pointing downwards) at teh top right of
the task pane and select "Mail merge" from the drop-down list
c. if step 4 of 6 is not showing in the task pane (it has "Arrange your
Labels" at the top), click the "Next: (whatever)" or "Previous: (whatever)"
links at the bottom of the task Pane until you get to step 4 of 6.
d. Use the F10 key or Alt key (on its own) to activate the menu - you will
probably see the "File" menu highlighted.
e. Use ctrl-tab to move between the various menus, toolbars, task pane etc.
When you have rached the task pane, the task pane header should be
highlighted and you will probably see that one of the items in the pane is
selcted (i.e. has a dotted box around it)
f. use the Arrow keys to seelct the "Update all labels" button.
g. Press the spacebar

There's probably a much easier way but that will have to do for now.

Hi,

Hitting F10 on the physical keyboard was the key for me making a little more
progress. But just a little.

Hitting F10 added some 'tags' to each ribbon element. A little box with 'M'
appeared next to the Mailings ribbon tab. Hitting the letter m on the
keyboard then changed the boxes to appear next to the mailing items, with 'B'
next to the 'Update Labels' button.

Alas, hitting the letter b on the keyboard does not properly propogate the
<<Address Block>> element across more than the top 3 labels plus the last 2
on the page.

Still need help.

Thanks,
Bob

See the other nearby conversation for some comments which may help.
