mail merge publisher 2002 issue

C

chenas

A publisher document (envelope) using mail merge with a .doc address list was
successful on XP SP2 but fails on Vista with "Publisher can't connect . . ."
even though directory names are he same on XP and Vista for this application.

Trying to Reconnect gives message "This operation cannot be completed
because of dialog or database engine failures, Please try again later."

The Compatibility update has been installed. Publisher 2002 SP3 is updated.

Any help is appreciated.

"The operation could not be completed because of dialog or database engine
failure" error message if you use Outlook contacts for a mail merge

or if you are not using Outlook:
This article addresses Word 2002, but I suspect the solution is the same.

I'm not using Outlook Contacts. The reference to Word 2002 was helpful
pointing to the WDAC/MDAC compatibility. However, the Component Checker
suggested is not for Vista, but it seems that WDAC 6.0 is essentially the
same a MDAC 2.8.
I received this same error when I converted the Word 2002 (running in
Vista) Tables file to a semi-colon delimited .txt file (also in Vista).

My next step is to rebuild the entire address file from Publisher 2002
running in Vista, someway. If I use the Merge Wizard it builds a .mdb fine
in Documents/My Data Sources. This seems to require typing instead of
accepting an existing file as input.

Maybe this will help, you could ask for help in a Vista newsgroup.

Thank you very much for responding.
I decided to try using Word 2002 in Vista for the mail merge in addressing
of envelopes. This is now operative with the same address files (.txt) that
Publisher 2002 balked at. When I have more time I will try to sort out why
Publisher does not like the files.
