Mail Merge with Excel and Word 2007

I know that Excel does not handle fields that are longer than 255 characters. In my merge, the info in the long field is truncated. I thought this wasfixed in 2007. Apparently not. The only fix I've found is to add a dummy record at the top of the Excel file and put a very long string of text in that field.

Can anyone suggest a better fix? I am not doing any programming here. Just using the data in the Excel file to generate a report.

This depends on what you're doing. For example, you can't copy/paste or
move/copy sheets with more than 256 characters without the text being
truncated. Otherwise, you can transfer the text via VBA no problem, and
most other tasks work fine.
