Mail merge zip codes

Hi
I can't get mail merge (in Word) to recognize a zip code that begins with a zero. The data column in Excel does recognize it, but the leading zero won't cross over, everything else works great!

In the Word document, go to Tools, Options, General, and
click the option to Confirm Conversion on Open. Then
begin the Mail Merge. When you go to open the Excel file
as your data source you will be prompted to Confirm the
Data Source, choose the Microsoft Excel Worksheet via DDE
option. You should get your zip codes!
