when merging outlood into word, i am getting all contacts, not the ones i
have filtered. how do i only merge the contacts i want via filters?

What are you selecting? If you open your contacts with a filtered view you
set up based on the parameters you wish (categories, etc) and start the mail
merge, you can use all contacts *in that view* only.
